Whether you’re in the early stages of parenting or further along in your journey, there are unique challenges at every turn.
The transition to parenthood for a parent that has not given birth presents changing roles as a caregiver and spouse. The stage of life directly after welcoming a child sets patterns that can carry on for years. It can impact sleep, your extended relationships, intimacy with your partner, and how you feel about yourself. An increasing number of new parents report a noticeable increase in symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. That can look like mood swings, a decrease in interests/energy, consistent worry, using substances more to ‘relax’ or maybe even spending lots of time on your phone because it’s challenging to be present.
As you venture on through the life of your family, it will throw you and your loved ones all types of experiences. Whatever life is asking out of you it can have an unwelcomed impact – increased stress, relationship strain, unwanted behaviors, etc. Each unique situation is deserving of your thoughtful presence and action. You may need to align your expectations, how you show up for your partner, your role with your children etc. to fit with the changing dynamics of life.
While we may talk about what parenting techniques or strategies you’d prefer to use I do not see my support as being parent training teaching you the best ways to raise your child. I center my service to focus on your needs. I hope I can help you to define the values that will guide you on this road of parenthood and find areas to continue your development as an individual. Therapy can look different for anyone based on your needs but it can help with:
